NPR: Promising New Bed Net Strategy To Zap Malaria Parasite In Mosquitoes

The WHO has credited insecticide-treated bed nets with preventing an estimated 1.3 billion cases of malaria and 6.8 million deaths from the disease since 2000. There are concerns, however, that mosquitoes are developing resistance against the insecticide. As a result, researchers are looking into an approach that will kill the parasite that causes malaria while inside the mosquito instead of killing the mosquito itself.
