Pew Research Center: Americans Are Wary of the Role Social Media Sites Play in Delivering the News

With the increasing influence that social media has on people’s lives, social media companies are using this rising trend to deliver news to the users. Through a survey conducted among 5,107 US adults, the Americans perceptions on this issue are discussed. The public has responded to these actions by raising concerns over the biased control social media companies have over what the user sees. Additional issues include inaccurate news content, politic bias, and favored news publishers. The biggest news audience targeted by social media companies is currently Facebook, with YouTube,  Twitter and Instagram following suit. Furthermore, the study contains data that reveal the demographics and age of people who utilize the different social media platforms.
