InsideHigherEd: Secure File Sharing Compromises University Security

Many universities, government institutions, and private companies worldwide have become victims of the Accellion data security breach. Personal and sensitive information, including names, addresses, and Social Security numbers were stolen and threatened to be released onto the dark web for large sums of money. Investigations are still ongoing, however, students and faculty alike have been encouraged to update their passwords and be more alert to phishing and suspicious scams. UCLA is even offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity theft protection services for one year.
