Diphtheria Cases in England Increase

The number of diphtheria cases in the UK have risen in the past year, with 3 people having died from the disease. According to the UK Health Security Agency, the increase could have been caused by an increase in the number of asylum seekers in the UK as well as people catching diphtheria from their pets. Toxigenic diphtheria was detected in 87 people in 2022 compared to 10 in 2021.
