NBC News: France becomes first country to make abortion a constitutional right

The addition of a woman’s right to abortion was approved by French lawmakers to be added to the French Constitution and was approved with a majority of 780-72. France’s President Macron promised this following the rollback of abortion rights in the United States. 

 

According to a recent poll, over 80% of the French public supports the right to abortion, and a majority of people were in favor of the addition of the right to be added to the constitution. Additionally, despite different opinions in France’s major political parties, none of those represented in parliament have questioned the right to abortion.
