Philippine volcano spews lava fountains, 56,000 people flee
Mount Mayon, the most active of The Philippines' 22 volcanoes, has had increased activity in the past 2 weeks.
Mount Mayon has had 50 eruptions in the past 500 years. Clouds of smoke began to form on January 16th, causing the villagers around it to be on high alert. The alert levels were raised from four to five on January 22nd as lava began to gush out up to 700 meters in the air which led to locals in the area to flee towards the 46 evacuation centers in surrounding areas. No deaths or injuries have been reported due to this volcanic activity.
