A Hawaiian island got about 50 inches of rain in 24 hours. Scientists warn it’s a sign of the future

Heidi Chang, from the LA Times reports on a historic mid-April rainstorm which left the Hawaiian island of Kauai drenched in 50 inches of rain in only 24 hours. As Kauai recovers, climate scientists are warning this is an early sign of the dangers of climate change. The most severely affected communities are built on an infrastructure ill-equipped for the changing climate. As flooding events become more frequent, there is an increased strain on both human communities as well as the natural environments of endangered plants and animals.
