According to the San Fransisco Public Health Department, about 900 patients from San Francisco General and Laguna Honda hospitals had their data breached by a former employee of a company the hospital works with. The data included the patients’ name, medical record number, medical conditions and diagnosis but excluded their social security number and financial information. The patients have been notified of the breach and a formal statement from this hospitals’ was issued. The employee worked for Nuance Communications which is contracted for medical transcription services. It is now apparent that the employee has accessed patient information from other clients as well. According to the US Justice Department, the patient information does not appear to have been used or sold in any way. To read more about the breach, click here.
