NYT: An Invasive New Tick Is Spreading in the U.S.

A new species of Tick has been found on the Eastern coast of the United States. It is the first new species found in America in fifty years. This species, the Asian long-horned tick, brings a large threat to livestock as they can multiply at incredible rates and can kill young animals. They will often bite horses, calves, sheep, dogs and occasionally humans. Experts suggest taking the usual precautions for ticks such as using repellents and checking your body for them if traveling through high grasses. The ticks tested thus far have not been carriers of the top three dangerous viruses, however further testing for other diseases is being conducted.
