NBC News: New York police detective killed by ‘friendly fire’ while responding to apparent armed robbery

On February 12th, a New York City police detective, Brian Simonsen, was shot and killed while responding to an attempted armed robbery at a cell phone store in Queens. A fellow detective was also wounded but is in stable condition. This is the first New York police officer death while on duty since 2017. Read more about this here.
