Measles cases in the United States hit a five-year high as of April 4, declaring a public health emergency to manage these ongoing outbreaks in Brooklyn, New York. The number of cases has reached 465, which is the highest since 2014. Measles has become present in four more states and has now reached one-third of the country. The disease is spreading in areas where people are unvaccinated due to the spread of misinformation about the vaccine leading to autism, a falsehood which was once a published and retracted in a Lancet article. NYC’s mayor is now requiring people to receive the measles vaccination or they will be fined up to $1,000. click here
