CNN: CRISPR gene-edited babies may be at increased risk of early death, study finds

A Chinese scientist purposefully edited a double mutation of the CCR5 gene, which has been shown in people who are highly resistant to HIV, and is correlated with a 21% larger risk of an early death. He Jiankui’s CRISPR experiment last year resulted in the birth of twins and broke China’s laws. Another scientist, Kiem, states that because of the increased change of an earlier mortality, individuals with one mutated and one normal gene have a greater fitness.
