NBC News: Teenagers can be seriously harmed by dietary supplements

According to a study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, teens who use dietary supplements for weight loss, weight gain, or muscle building are at an increased risk for harm or possibly death. Out of 977 cases reported to the FDA between 2004 and 2015, 40% resulted in trips to the ER, disability, or death. The study also looked at vitamins but found that dietary supplements were the most dangerous. One particular supplement, creatine, is easily accessible to teens and is marketed as a muscle builder.
