Today: What happens to kids with disabilities in school lockdowns?

Many parents who have children with disabilities are concerned that their child’s school does not have adequate emergency plans for these students, especially with the growing concern around active shooter emergencies. Some parents have faced difficulty when reaching out about their concerns, while others have been impressed by their schools’ proactivity.

Concerned parents can increase the communication between them and school by discussing the Independent Emergency and Lockdown Plans (IELPs) that go along with their student’s Individualized Education program (IEP).
