SA: Are Smokers or Vapers More at Risk for COVID-19? Here’s What We know

As part of the fight against COVID-19, researchers are identifying preexisting heath factors that allow the disease to go from beatable to deadly. Early pathological studies, or those that look at causes and effects of a disease, have already found risk factors for the most severe form of COVID-19: being of older age and having a chronic underlying illness. Chronic illnesses being examined are those brought about by smoking, which has already been shown to suppress immune functioning in the lungs and increase the risk of influenza. There is currently little information on e-cigarette use(vaping) and infectious disease risk, however, the current outbreak of deadly vaping-related lung illness suggests a potential harm similar to that of smoking.
