UCLA Newsroom: UCLA Health scientists pioneer faster, cheaper COVID-19 testing

The standard for COVID testing so far has been qPCR, but a new development at UCLA Health offers a method with a faster turnaround time of 12-24 hours. It builds upon current PCR technology with the use of a synthetic RNA standard that mimics COVID and a set of primer adaptors that act as molecular barcodes. This method, termed SwabSeq, can be applied to nasal and oral samples and can allow a “small lab to process tens of thousands of samples per day”. To read more, click here
