CNN : Feds ‘overpromised and underdelivered’ on coronavirus vaccines, state health officials say

Health officials suggest that the federal government “overpromised and underdelivered” on the coronavirus vaccine expectations. The federal government confused states and the public by promising millions more doses than were actually delivered. This is not to undermine the incredible achievement of developing multiple vaccines in less than a year; however, if only the government projected realistic quantities, there would be less of a shortcoming in vaccination rates. Moreover, the states are getting insufficient funding for the distribution of vaccines. Dr. Rachel Levine, secretary of health at the Pennsylvania Department of Health and president of ASTHO, suggests that states and territories have only been given $340 million to accomplish the vaccination goals by the end of 2020, which is clearly insufficient. The money would have been needed for several critical aspects of the response, including contracting with companies to set up vaccine clinics and create communication plans.
