Los Angeles Times: Pentagon approves extending wildfire surveillance program

The Pentagon is temporarily extending FireGuard, a surveillance program that provides military and government satellite images to firefighters to implement effective firefighting strategies and evacuations. FireGuard was scheduled to end on September 30th, 2021, but its temporary renewal will last for another year. Intelligence analysts from the California National Guard are on call 24/7 during the wildfire season to alert commanders, and new reports from FireGuard are sent out every 15 minutes.
