CNN: Cubans are arriving to the US in record numbers. Smugglers are profiting from their exodus

Over the past couple of decades, Cubans have mass emigrated in waves to the US and the rest of the Americas. However, the most recent exodus is approaching record-breaking numbers. From October 2021 through March 2022, over 80,000 Cubans arrived at the US border through Mexico following the Cuban government’s easing of COVID-19-related travel restrictions. This dramatic rise comes as Cuba is experiencing its worst shortage of food, basic goods, and medicine and as its national currency continues to fall in value due to runaway inflation.
