BBC: Bird flu ‘spills over’ to otters and foxes in UK

A strain of the influenza virus, or bird flu (also known as H5N1 or avian influenza), has been spreading to many mammals, including otters and foxes. Although public health organizations warn that the risk to the general public is not high, it is very much possible that humans can contract H5N1. Other scientists also warn that there is a possibility of it spreading and having a similar effect to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In the past twenty years, 457 mortalities have resulted from the avian flu.
