NPR: Moderna’s COVID vaccine gambit: Hike the price, offer free doses for uninsured

Moderna plans to charge around $130 per dose for its next version of the vaccine tailored to target new strains of the virus. This cost will be passed on to individual patients if their health insurance does not cover it, prompting outrage from some politicians. The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions has called Moderna’s CEO in for questioning about the pricing plan. However, Moderna has announced a patient assistance program that will provide the vaccine to uninsured or underinsured patients at no cost, beginning in May.
