Ice shelves, shelves of ice connected to glaciers that float above water, are super important for preventing glaciers from breaking off. A study published by Nature was able to show the effect of greenhouse gas emissions on melting west Antarctic ice shelves. The researchers found that sea levels may rise more than previous expectations due to greenhouse gasses, putting many people at risk. Click here to learn more about how melting ice shelves work.
