Through a high-risk stem cell transplant, the 5th person in patient history has been cured from HIV. Even after stopping his medication for 4 years, the patient has no detectable virus in the body. This is significant as HIV is a permanent virus that resides in the DNA, so there is currently no ubiquitous cure for the disease.
