NBC: NY Cases of Potentially Lethal Fungal Infection Trend Up After CDC Warning

Candida auris, a fungal yeast that affects mostly those with compromised immune systems, was shown to have drastically increased over recent years, especially in the state of New York, New Jersey, and parts of Canada. C. auris is considered multidrug resistant, meaning some of its strains aren’t affected by antifungal drugs. This year, almost 150 cases of the infection were confirmed in the New York City area.
