Arrival of Puerto Ricans post-Hurricane Maria could have big impact on Florida

An estimated 100,000 Puerto Ricans have headed to Florida in the aftermath of this year’s hurricanes; with a large-scale migration such as this comes inevitable changes to Florida’s housing, employment, and political landscapes. Even before the hurricanes, Puerto Ricans were heading to Florida to escape the island’s $73 billion debt crisis; however, in the devastating aftermath of Hurricanes Maria and Irma, surveys shows that around 10-14% of Puerto Rican inhabitants are considering moving to the US mainland.
