US News: Measles Outbreak Leads to Public Health Emergency

782

In Washington, there has been a declared outbreak of Measles. Twenty-two people are confirmed to have measles, with all but one being younger than ten years old. There have been some identified sources: an elementary school, a dollar store, and an urgent care facility. Measles is a highly contagious disease as the infectious particles linger in the air for a couple of hours after an infected person coughs. This means that any non-immune person nearby is likely to get ill. In fact, many of those who are sick in this outbreak have not been vaccinated.
