NBC Los Angeles: Los Angeles County Aims to Improve Child Welfare Response

A recent state audit found that the child welfare system puts children’s’ lives at risk. The audit found that on numerous occasions, the Department of Children and Family Services failed to complete investigations, sometimes even months past the allotted time. Moreover, some social workers did not accurately identify safety threats in the child’s home and others made assessments without actually visiting the child’s home. The audit aims to make new changes such as creating a system that will inform staff of investigations that need to be kept up to date.
