Those who survive mass shootings may experience extremely intense trauma, PTSD, and survivors’ guilt. Clinical psychologist Capt. Richard Schobitz speaks about the importance of creating a healing community; many different roles, such as medical professionals in hospitals, therapists, and the survivors’ family and friends can contribute to addressing the emotional pain in different ways.

Social and emotional isolation are the most indicative red flags of something larger going on, so sometimes checking in is much more important than giving space.
