Reuters Health: British hospitals may be poorly prepared for high casualty incidents

Medical trainees in England, a role equivalent to medical residents in the United States, were recently surveyed about their knowledge surrounding their respective hospitals’ Major Incident Plan. Findings are that for major disaster situations that can happen to hospitals, more than half of the physicians likely to respond to the situation have a poor understanding of what to do. There also seems to be a very low confidence in where to find such emergency preparedness plans, calling into question how to balance resources and time in emergency preparedness with the other demands of training.
