The Wall Street Journal: Africa’s Worst Locust Plague in Decades Threatens Millions

Countries in East Africa are experiencing fast-growing locust infestations, threatening the food security of the region. Desert locusts can consume their body weight of food and travel over 90 miles in a day. 23.6 million people in the region already face food insecurity, according to the U.N. The cause of the locust infestations is unusual flooding from last year, and the only effective method to contain them is aerial spraying, which is both expensive and dangerous.
