A recent study carried out by researchers at the University of Helsinki found that there existed a significantly higher number of allergy cases on Finland’s side of the border in comparison to Russian’s side. This difference in allergy count is suspected to be as a result of the different exposure to environmental microbes on the two different sides which they now believe could play a role in shaping the human immune system and leading to the development of different allergies. According to one the leading researchers Fyhrquis, “we saw [that]  children living in the countryside surrounded by forest and green area were much less allergic [than Finnish children in more-urban environments], and they also had a much richer skin microbiota,.” To read more, click here.
