Associated Press: Some doctors moving away from ventilators for virus patients

As doctors rely on changing, new data to learn the best ways to manage COVID-19 patients, some fear that mechanical ventilators could be doing more harm than good for patients. Experts have found that typically patients that rely on ventilators have a mortality rate of around 40-50%. Meanwhile, in New York, it’s been found that 80% or more of COVID-19 patients die on ventilator support. The reasons for these higher-than-normal death rates may be attributed to the patient’s general health, how sick they have become by the time they require ventilation, and the fact that coronavirus patients generally stay on ventilators for longer than pneumonia patients.
