SA: Mobile Clinics Can Provide Equity in the Defense against COVID-19

The UN secretary-general has warned against forgetting vulnerable populations like the uninsured, underinsured, and undocumented in the response to COVID-19. Mobile clinics like the Family Van in Boston provide access to these marginalized communities. Some clinics have begun delivering essential hygiene and food products, while others are deploying the clinics for COVID-19 testing. A gathering of over 330 mobile health clinic leaders emphasized the need for government and hospital collaboration to upscale the efforts. Mobile clinics have been a valuable resource in response to previous health crises such as the Flint water crisis and Hurricane Katrina. Clinics like these are known to reduce emergency room visits, hospital admissions, and improve chronic care management.
