LA Times: ‘We’re vulnerable’: On the Navajo Nation, a rush to curb the coronavirus

The Navajo Nation is a federally recognized tribe that covers area in Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The reservation is remote with many homes lacking electricity and running water. In addition, abandoned uranium mines have caused citizens living on the reservation to have higher rates of cancer. All of these things make the members of the Navajo Nation more susceptible to the coronavirus. The Navajo Nation has had 75 deaths which is more than the entire state of Utah. This is not new for the Navajo Nations because back in 2009 during the swine flu outbreak Native Americans had a death rate four times higher than all other racial groups.
