Los Angeles Times: National guard activated to assist beleaguered hospitals in rural California
Three California hospitals, two in Bakersfield and one in Redding, are receiving assistance from the National Guard amidst another surge of Covid-19 hospitalizations. These hospitals, like many others nationwide, are facing staffing shortages. Rural parts of California are facing intense COVID-19 surges, and their population vaccination rates lag behind that of the rest of the state. Bakersfield Memorial had 96% occupancy in the past week. Approximately 43.2% of Kern County residents are fully vaccinated.
