CNN: One million refugees flee Ukraine as Russia escalates bombardment of key cities

The United Nations estimates that more than one million refugees have fled Ukraine in the past seven days due to Russia’s bombardment of cities across the country. Half of the refugees are children, according to UNICEF, and many are unaccompanied children. This could be Europe’s largest refugee crisis since World War II. Residents have stated that there is a severe shortage of food and medicine, especially insulin. The European Union has decided to grant temporary protections for the refugees, and the United Nations World Food Programme has started an operation to provide food assistance to Ukrainians.
