CNN News: North Korea announces first Covid deaths amid ‘explosive’ outbreak

On Thursday, May 12, according to North Korean officials, the first-ever case of COVID-19 has been identified, prompting the government to declare a national emergency. 18,000 new cases have been reported with 6 deaths, one of which tested, positive for the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron. The North Korean healthcare infrastructure has for a long time been considered neglected, so the outbreak could prove disastrous for the country.
