F.D.A. Authorizes Updated Covid Booster Shots for Children 5 to 11
With updated COVID booster shots for children as young as 5, the FDA hopes to protect people from the dominant form of the Omicron variant that makes up the majority of the cases in the US. Previously, Moderna’s updated booster was available to those 18 and older, whereas Pfizer’s was cleared for those 12 and older. Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, immediately signed off on the new booster shots. However, Pfizer’s updated booster is not expected to become available until next week. These new booster shots are expected to help provide more durable protection than prior infection.
