San Juan mayor: Hurricane death toll could be 10 times higher than reported

San Juan mayor, Carmen Yulín Cruz announced that the death toll from hurricanes Irma and Maria could be hundreds higher than initial government counts. Many of the deceased had been cataloged as dying from “natural causes.” It was not confirmed whether all of the deceased were examined before being cremated, which introduces discrepancies between the official death toll and the actual death toll from this year’s hurricanes.
