Recent Terrorism Attacks in Indonesia

Indonesia is currently dealing with the aftermath of multiple recent terrorist attacks in the country, all claimed under the Islamic State. On Sunday, May 13th, a family’s coordinated bombing attack at three separate churches left 18 dead and 40 injured in Surabaya. The next day, a family bombed a police station in the same city, killing some of the suspect family members and injuring 10. A few days later, on Wednesday, May 16th, terrorists attacked a police station in Riau using samurai swords, killing one policeman. Following the aftermath of these attacks, the president pledges to press for an anti-terrorism bill and to step up anti-terrorism security measures in the country.
