SA: Anti-Vaccine Movement Could Prolong Coronavirus Pandemic, Researchers Warn

Small, but vocal anti-vaccincation groups have been increasingly present in recent years and they have currently shifted their attention towards COVID-19. Current findings on trends in anti-vaccination groups’ online communication demonstrate that their posts are receiving incredibly large viewership. These anti-vaccination pages are smaller, yet more numerous than pro-vaccination pages and they have been more prevalent in discussions in undecided groups. Scientists are worried that this opposition will undermine COVID-19 vaccine efforts and progress towards establishing herd immunity. Currently, general support for vaccines remains high, but extrapolation of current trends suggests that anti-vaccination views may dominate forums like Facebook within the next ten years.
