CNBC: New Covid strain: NY Gov. Cuomo confirms state’s first case
Across the U.S., ICU bed availability continues to decrease. A new issue arises, though, with the presence of a worrisome U.K. COVID strain. The mutated strain is more contagious, although the newly-approved vaccines remain effective against it. Health officials discovered multiple cases of the U.K. strain in the states, with the most recent cases found in New York. Public health officials believe the variant is already incredibly widespread; it must simply be detected. Being highly contagious, officials worry that it would further overwhelm hospitals and frontliners who are already exhausted from months of treating COVID-19 patients.
